Find Out Why is The Check Engine Light On With The OBDLink SX 2.0 OBD-II Scan Tool by ScanTool

I wanted to find out why is the check engine light on. When I had the check engine light come on my 2009 Chevy Aveo, and needless to say,  I freaked out, because for one,.. The car was only a year old back then, it only had 30,000 miles on it, (I know 30,000 miles on a 2009 vehicle in 2010 is high). However it’s still good. I had just bought this car less than a year before the check engine light came on, and I had just had it serviced at the dealer a few weeks prior to that.

So after all those thoughts I started to freak out, I started thinking the worst. Is it gonna leave me stranded on the side of a deserted road in the middle of the cold, dark winter night? Is it going to make me late for work in the morning because it wont start? amgonna have to ask someone at work for a ride home? Is it going to cost me a lot of money to get it fixed. As you can see, I have a natural talent for the overly dramatic.

I had to find out why is the check engine light on?. Well after a lot of online research, I decided on this rather high priced device that could read the OBD-II in my car. I used it and come to find out, all my car needed was a new gas cap. Wow what a relief! however, after finding out that the problem was not so serious as I had imagined, I wasn’t happy with the price I had paid for this OBD II device, mainly because I might not need to use it frequently.

After I found out the problem was very minor, I was still very skeptical and OBDLink SX 2.0 OBD-II Scan Toolwanted to make sure that this was really the problem, so I asked a coworker to let me borrow the OBD-II scan tool he had told me he had and see if it would render the same test result.

It did give me the same result, but come to find out his OBD-II scan tool was easier to read and most importantly it was cheaper, about $20.00 dollars less than I had paid for mine. needless to say I was a little disappointed about my purchase price, so I went back to the store were I bought the OBD-II scan tool and got my money back. And then I went ahead and bought the one my friend had let me borrow.

It was the: OBDLink SX 2.0 OBD-II Scan Tool by ScanTool Red. A few weeks after I had bought this tool, my brother had the check engine light come on on his F150 and the truck didn’t pass the emissions test because of that, so we hooked the OBD Link SX 2.0 OBD-II scantool to his truck, ran the test and found out it needed a new Thermostat. He had the Thermostat replaced. The OBD-II tool, told us exactly what the problem was and where, making it so easy to just go to the auto mechanic shop and tell the guys what was wrong with his truck, get an honest estimate of part and labor and also how long it was going to take to get it done.

Everything went smoothly and we could have been out of the repair shop sooner, if it wasn’t that the auto parts store delivered the wrong thermostat to the mechanic shop, or better said they did deliver the right part according to their system specs, however, that truck needed a different one that needed to be ordered from the manufacturer. And it was Saturday when we went to the auto repair place.

We could have been out of there with the problem fixed in an hour, but it didn’t go so smoothly and it ended up taking us two days to get if fixed, we had to go back the Monday because the Ford dealership didn’t open on Sunday, however my brother saved himself about $70.00 because even though you tell the mechanic what’s wrong with your car, they still have to run a Can OBD scan on your vehicle to diagnose it themselves and give you an accurate quote.

If it turns out to be what you told them the problem was in the first place they will and have to take the Can OBD diagnosis test charge off of your final repair bill, and that’s the advantage we had by using this tool . To go back to re-take the emissions test and passed it, and saved himself $70.00 for a diagnostic test at the mechanic shop.

See when you go to the mechanic shop knowing what’s wrong with your car, you have the upper hand and you’re not leaving any room for possible rip offs. All together, this device is well worth the money, and I give it a thumbs up.  I have a really cool and very useful tool on this site, called the FREE, 90% off deal finder tool. Feel free to use it when you are ready to get this OBD-II scan tool. I guarantee you will love this tool, I do!

You need an internet connection for details on what the car codes are about.

It will work to remove codes, so you can pass emission test, but it won’t remove the ABS light I’ve got on a Honda.

If you want to enable “advanced” functionality you must pay for it, which to me it’s not a good thing.

You do need to have a laptop to use this OBD II reader.
