How to Build a Cheap Grow Light System

How to Build a Cheap Grow Light System

I started thinking about how to grow a cheap grow light system? because, I’m a huge fan of building and growing my own stuff, in an effort to save money and get more value out of my money as well. That’s why when I went grocery shopping about two years ago, I told myself. Why am I paying all this money for  all this vegetables and herbs when I can very well grow my own and I’m sure it will be of better quality than what I’m getting here.

So like always I went on a quest to grow my own vegetables, herbs and maybe fruits too (that was a big maybe). I went online and read up about all that had to do with Hydroponics and taking care of my own herbs and vegetables at home.

I bought books and learned a lot of helpful stuff, come to find out that with some dedication, time and know-how; I can very well grow my own inexpensive, high quality produce at my own house. The first thing I did was get me a Grow Light System. I thought that was going to be the most expensive part of my project, but to my surprise it wasn’t.

I went online and got this Hydrofarm JSV4 4-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System. This one is, one of the most expensive non-industrial ones. It cost me about $65.00 bucks and it was very easy to assemble.

What You’ll Need

  •  Philips head screwdriver
  •  Pair of pliers
  •  10 to 15 minutes of your time
Assembly Procedure
Of course, you have to get it out the box first and then lay all the components out on a flat surface that’s free of debris. Make sure you take a look at the instructions before you start doing anything and if you follow them correctly, you shouldn’t have any problems putting it together. One screw is used to connect each of the two vertical supports to the base cross-bars.

The shape and construction of the parts, makes it fit tight and secured. Then each of the vertical side bars slips into the top piece (metal button is pressed and then releases into a hole on the top piece). Then you attach the light fixture, by hooking nylon strings with s hooks attached to the top to either end of the light fixture (This allows one-handed movement of the light up or down). Pliers are used to close the s hooks.

The light is raised and lowered with the nylon string, it’s just like a Venetian blind, Very simple. I had my grow light system up and running in about 15 minutes, and I’ve had that one and two more I bought about 2 years now and I couldn’t be any happier. After that all I needed was some quality seeds, high quality organic potting soil, fertilizer and of course, good old h20. Ever since I got this Hydrofarm JSV4 4-Foot Jump Start T5 Grow Light System, I’ve grown my own green onions, cilantro, thyme, basil, oregano, parsley, chives,  rosemary, lavender and even tomatoes, spinach, blackberries and blueberries. Wow, ha!!!!. It has been very interesting and needles to say fun. I give it thumbs up.

4.0 out of 5 stars Simple, light weight, easy to adjust light February 9, 2008

I have had this light set-up for a few years now, and still love it. The original fluorescent fixture conked out after 2 or 3 years’ use, but a $10 shoplight fixture from a hardware store replaced it seamlessly. The stand is very light, and slightly aggravating to put together the first time, but……Click Here To Read More

I’m re-writing my review because issues mentioned in it previously are no longer issues. I have 2 of these now. I’ve uploaded 3 customer images to show how 2 of these can work together. One is an older design that uses two T12 bulbs, a pull rope for on/off switch and pull strings on the side for height adjustment. The newer design that is selling now is……Click Here To Read More

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice bargain for the money!, October 7, 2007

I have some mixed feelings about this product, even though I’m about to order a second one. First, and the only downside to this light, the overall construction is rather cheap. The frame is rather flimsy…Hydrofarm put all their know-how into the most important part:……Click Here To Read More

I had purchased one of these and found it of acceptable quality, with the seller being Amazon itself. It is a very lightweight system and if you have animals in the space where you intend to use it, you might not want this – not unless your animals are……Click Here To Read More

Thanks for the outline of television stuff.
I absolutely think that cable television is going to go away.

Or at a minimum have to change with the times.
Internet television is definitely the wave of the future.
As broadband speeds get faster, everyone will be watching their tv shows on sites like this.

What does anyone know about this? I think there’s a lot more
