How To Remove Tile Grout Using The Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit

I got the Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit because, when I first bought my town home  I loved the place, it was cozy and relatively new it was built in 2005. Everything was almost perfect, then I started noticing small cosmetic flaws. There were a few walls around the house that looked like someone had punched a hole through the them and then tried to do a quick fix, in order to get the house listed quickly. It looked like they gave a child some compound and a putty knife and told them to play-fix the walls.

I had to get them eyesores fixed. When it comes to manual work, I’m not the hands on, let’s get dirty type. I like to do things fast and as effortless as possible. Therefor the hand saw, sand paper and elbow grease it’s obviously out of the question for me. Another eyesore I noticed for sure, was the tile grout in the bathroom wall, That stuff looked very old, dirty and cracked. I knew I had to do something about that right away, so I set out to remove the tile grout in my bathroom walls and then re-grout those puppies. See I’m a firm believer that if there’s something you are able to do it yourself, why pay someone else to do it, call me cheap but that’s what I think.

Tools You’ll Need

Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit

  • Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit
  • (You’ll need the Grit / Grout and Tile Blade that comes in the kit to do this task.)
  • Safety Glasses
  • A Shop Vacuum or Grout Brush
  • 2 or 3 big trash bags (if you’re working on a wall, it makes the clean up easier.)

OK. Let’s get to it

When performing any job where you will be sanding, grinding or cutting anything, I always recommend wearing safety glasses, because debris could get in your eyes and your little D.I.Y. project could end up costing you a whole lot more than you planned. And always be very careful and use your common sense, when operating power tools. After you have taken all the necessary precautions to ensure your safety and the proper handling of the power tools. Even though I suggest taking all this precautionary measures, the whole process is not hard at all. You can get it done in four easy steps. Well, let’s get started.

There’s also something you need to acknowledge, there are a few reasons why the grout in between the tiles will be cracked or broken. One of those reasons is how the tiles were installed or set, if not done properly it may lead to movement in the tiles and cracking or breaking of the grout will occur. Another very common reason (and it falls again under improper installation), is if the grout mix was weakened while it was being mixed more than likely by adding too much water to it.

Step 1

First go ahead and cut the trash bags on one side along the seams and then make a straight cut on the bottom of the bag to butterfly it, after you do that lay the bags flat on the floor, right underneath the area where you’ll be removing the grout. This Technic is particularly good when working on the wall right above the tub, because it keeps all that debris from getting all over the tub and inside the draining opening.

Step 2

Then open the tool box and get the Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit and grab the Grit / Grout and Tile Blade from the kit and attach it to the power tool following the instructions in the manual.

Step 3

First locate the area that you want to remove the grout from, then while holding the Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit very firmly, turn the power switch to the on position. My advice is to always start grouting at the middle edge of the tile to avoid cracking the tile. Then while holding the Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit on both sides for leverage and in an angle, push on the tool firmly but not too hard against the grout. Once you break into the grout then you can straighten the oscillating tool and start moving the tool along the grout in a straight line, back and forwards as many times as needed, until you loosen up and remove all the grout completely.

Step 4

Once you’re done removing all the grout, you can use the grout brush to brush the surface of the tile or as I prefer, you can use the shop vacuum to really free the surface off of all the debris. You want to make sure you get those gaps really clean of any old grout before you start resetting the new grout mix. Before you do anything else, make sure you give that tile a little tug, to make sure it’s still secured and that there’s no movement, because if there is movement you will have to pop that tile out and reset it, or the grout will break or crack once more.

In just four steps you can remove that cracked or broken grout from your tiles yourself and get them ready resetting some new grout and looking like new again, it’s very easy to do. I hope this helps, and you can always just replace the tiles. I have a really cool and very useful tool on this site, called the FREE, 90% off deal finder tool. Feel free to use it when you are ready to get the Bosch MX25EK-33 120-Volt 33-Piece Oscillating Tool Kit. I guarantee you will love this tool, I do!

When my last multi-fx oscillating tool gave up the ghost, i thought of ordering a Fein. However, as near as I could tell from the online reviews, the Bosch was nearly as good @ half the price. I’m very satisfied with this Bosch (as I am with my other Bosch tools). There aren’t as many…...Click Here To Read More

I’m really pleased with the operation of this tool.
It is true that the blades don’t last a long time, however when you take into account the difficult job the blade is performing you realize what a time saver the tool is. Whether it is better or worse than the Fein Multimaster is debatable. The Fein upper models do have a….Click Here To Read More

This is a very versatile tool. In fact, it’s the kind of tool that you don’t realize you need until you actually use it and experience the versatility. It can do flush cutting, sanding in corners of boxes and drawers, grout removal, paint removal, scraping and smoothing, plunge cutting, and much, much more in wood, plastic, and metals. A good array of accessories is included with the tool, and additions/replacements are widely available at a pretty reasonable cost. Everything fits into a….Click Here To Read More
